General Site Guidelines
- This is free webspace for you to use for this course, take advantage! Link it to your Linked in, Facebook or Twitter account. Feel free to make your portfolio site on this server, or post your resume. You should remember, however, keep it professional.
- You may edit/add/delete files/folders in your assigned directory ONLY. You can use any of the following languages on the site - PHP5, Perl, Python, CGI, Ruby on Rails, Javascript, and SSI. If you need something special for your account (database, SSH access, wiki, WordPress, dotProject, etc), please submit your request in writing to me via email and I will try to accommodate your needs.
- This is a Debian Linux server, ergo, ASP pages, and other Windows proprietary software will not work on the server. You may, with permission, store exe and other files for download purposes only.
- Please maintain your webspace neatly. Your root folder should have index.html/shtml and then folders that lead to the rest of the site. You should absolutely create an image folder and store all your graphics there.
- Graphics should be resized before uploading to the server - do not make the webpage resize your graphic for you as you are taking disk space that you do not need.
Web Tips
- Check your spelling and grammar before you post.
- Do not edit your pages live, a.k.a. on the server, unless you know what you are doing and are very comfortable building your webpage from scratch if you lose it.
- Use CSS - it will save you a lot of time in the long run.
- No animated images, blinking text or image, no audio, etc. Do not detract from your page with fluff.
- Do not use frames.
- Add your contact information at the bottom of every page of your website.
Rules of the Site
- Refer to UNCC's webpage policies. You are responsible for reading and complying with the policies therein.
- Posting intentionally inflammatory content is prohibited. Inflammatory content shall be defined as excessive language, intentionally controversial discussion topics, and overly graphic imagery.
- Personal attacks and attacks on the University will not be tolerated.
- If you do not own the copywrite, you may not post images, data, etc. on this site without written permission from the copywrite holder.
- Hotlinking (where you use a link of an image stored on another server instead of saving the image on this server) will not be tolerated. You are using bandwidth that you did not pay for. Also, hotlinking images stored on this server to another server will not be tolerated.
- Changing other student's webpages, folder structures, deleting data not your own, etc, will not be tolerated. The server logs will catch you doing this and I will have to insist on your immediate removal from the course.
- This is a professional web site - please treat it, and your fellow classmates, professionally.
- Violations of these policies will result in 1 (one) warning to remove the content. Failure to remove the content or repeated offenses will result in an immediate revoking of account privileges and you will receive an F for the course.
