"Instinctual Furry"
A platformer for all ages to enjoy
Game Title: "Instinctual Furry" Genre: Platformer/Puzzle Solving Number of Players: 2-4 Players Platform: Computer Target Audience: Children - Young Adults Target ESRB Rating: Rated E-10 Description of environment, characters, and story background:
The point of view of the player will be third person view. The environment and players will be 3D but the landscape will consist of starting at the bottom of the map and progressing North. It will be a fairly linear pathway but with slightly different options of pathing to take. Certain paths will be impossible given the animals you have unlocked to play. The characters that the players control will be a set of animated (disproportionate) animals that each have different puzzle solving and platforming powers. For example, the alligator can jump to hanging ropes and bite on them and hang there, allowing the other player or the escorted NPC jump and grab the alligator's tail in order to swing/jump farther.
Basic rules that highlight the core game mechanic, outcomes and sense of strategy: The point of the game is for the players to work together using each animals powers, either picking the right animals, or using a number of animals in sequence, in order to escort a NPC across the level. All I have so far is that a little girl got separated from her mama and a bunch of animals decided to help her. This gives the players a sense of responsibility. Sure it is fun to wreck a plan on purpose if it causes the other player to mess up, but each character wants to escort the little girl. (weird silly ending where her mother is really weird looking? maybe even a creature lol. Make the girl occasionally say things that hint at dis). Each animal has a different personality and a different reason to protect the little girl. Strategy comes in figuring out which animals to use to complete each puzzle in order to advance through the level. There may be enemies to fight. Falling won't kill you, but it will do a lot of damage to you. Enemies will damage you also. Another sense of strategy is avoiding death by swapping out to a different animal when that animal's health is low. The outcomes are dying or successfully escorting the little girl through each level until you reach her mother. What games are similar and how is yours different: The character setup will be much like Banjo Kazooie in which you play animals and each animal has different abilities that allow you to advance. However, in my game, you will have many animals to choose from once you unlock them. The level design will be similar to some Mario Party minigames in which you must advance upward and avoid falling down pits.
